i am in the middle of fitting a new mechanical fuel pump (its been sitting in my garage for a while) and i noticed that there is a hole in the fuel pump body (in the lower half of the pump). Is this normal? it looks like a part of the cast, but not sure?

 my engine is a 1275?

That's a good idea, though I imagine it will be at least as much about ensuring crankcase pressure doesn't interfere with the diaphragm.

Mr J,

It'd be much more serious to have it turning into an explosive vapour inside the crankcase.
