HI All I was wondering if someone might be able help,

On Saturday i went to start my car ('86 Mayfair), stuck the key in the ignition barrel, but as I turned the key it went one click but then the barrel came loose and wouldn't let the key turn any more, it just moves about.

I haven't had a chance to take the cowl off of the column yet, but i just want to see if anybody has had the same or similar issue to them and if they know if its a simple fix or a totally new ignition barrel, or if the ignition barrel off my other mini ('83 Van') as a short term fix?

All help appreciated,

Bradley

The barrel is not meant to come out of the steering lock.  They are not classed as serviceable and as such parts aren't available.  On some the switch on the back is replaceable but not on all.  If you can't simply tighten it back together it will need a whole new steering lock.  It's probably come loose as a result of someone trying to swap the barrel over or service it previously, which the thing is not designed for and so damage is almost unavoidable.
