Hi all
After a rebuild on my gearbox with included new
Baulk rings, when changing down gears it grinds into
2nd but is fine going up gears.

So could it be the gear hub itself?
Tks

Take it back to the supplier. This could be a number of issues. If you rebuilt it yourself, you need strip and examine the components. Get an experienced person to help identify the issue.

I have stripped the gear box today  and I cant find any worn teeth, there was a bit of swarf not that much

does anyone know what thinkness the baulk rings are to be as I brought the rings from ebay could already be faulty

is there anything else to look for on the 2nd gear hub?

Tks

Ok, does the baulkring fit on the gear cone with a gap, or does it bottom out ont he gear and spin?

Did you change the synchro hub springs for new ones?

Hi
It doesn't bottom out
There is a gap of about a 1mm between the cone
And ring

I also put new spring in the hubs

Ok does the ring grip the gear? does the inside of the ring look torn and damaged?

Does swapping then improve the grip?

Have you fitted all 3 springs? Does the hub feel tight or loose comparing to the 3rd/4th hub?

Ya AC it does grip the cone and the inside is nt
Worn

Is there any checks I could do on the hub itself

To be honest it feels the same as 3rd and 4rd
Ya I fitted new springs.

From what you are describing there are no problems. I would need to see/feel the components to be able to advise further.

Just double de-clutch on the downshifts - problem solved ;D .

It is possible to put the inner part of the syncro hub in back to front.  The difference is easily missed.  This will lead to the symptoms you have.  Ask me how I know. :shy:  On mine it would only go into second on the down change with an almighty crunch and at very slow speed.  Stationary it was fine.
