http://www.minisport...-2-2-turns.html what is it used for and what are the advantages and are they for track cars or road cars does it make the steering lighter or easyer to turn?

It is a faster rack, it means you only turn the steering wheel 2.2 turns lock to lock opposed to 2.7 turns with a standard rack (I believe) (less turning amount required to turn the car the same amount)

You can use it on the road but I dont know why you would want to, the mini steering is pretty quick already, and a quick rack will make the steering heavier overall

+1. Really only for competition. It is unlikely to be any advantage on the public roads and will be heavier.

Combine this with a relatively small steering wheel and the steering will be very heavy

I changed to a quick rack a few weeks ago and to be completely honest i didnt find the steering any heavier, however the steering felt more direct and more responsive without it being twitchy.

If fitting a quick rack a 15" steering wheel will probably be a good idea.

+1 Found my steering more responsive as well but not any heavier than standard steering

It is heavier. You're just not noticing it! :P

I had one in my first Mini because I thought I was a rally driver. Turned out I wasn't, and that I didn't need a higher geared rack at all! It's so far down the list of modifications I'd carry out on a road car now, that I personally really don't think it's worth it.

I never run a quick rack even on my rally Minis as I think a big bump or deep rut could put loads into the steering which would not be 'holdable' with a higher ratio steering rack. I run a 14" steering wheel with a standard rack and it always seems great, even on gravel roads with the car well sideways.

The Minis steering is already a legend and the one main thing which was so great when the car was introduced.

But then, if money is no object and there is a perceived advantage, then fit one, but use a 15" steering wheel to avoid 'over steering' (rather than 'oversteering).
