hi all

i have just bcome the proud owner of this:

comp1.JPG

comp2.JPG

it has clearly seen better days, the gauge is bust, there is no cover over the motor cooling fan and i have had to fit a new outlet. i have also topped up the oil.

But is there any way of servicing/inspecting it? or is it just a case of waiting until it breaks down to have a good look at it?

cheers

Ryan

Hi Ryan providing that you have oil in the pump and the inlet filter is clean then its normally a case of switch it on and let it run, drive belt tension needs checking but there normally pretty bulletproof .

You MUST fit the motor fan cowl - it may cook otherwise.

Do not over fill the oil either. That can end badly for the compressor.

hi

Thats where i would start

if you mean the air tank, yes i have, because when i fired it up the drain valve wasn't even done up...

Do not over fill the oil either. That can end badly for the compressor.

i think my dip stick has snapped, as all i have is plug in the filler hole. But it does have a window.

I will look at dropping all the oil out and starting again before it goes into service.

Is it only Clarke that can supply an air filter for it?

cheers

There maybe generic ones that fit but if you have a Machinemart nearby then worth popping in as they may have replacements available.

On the oil front I did overfill by mistake and had to strip the compressor down to check for damage. It basically seized up but whether this was a hydraulic lock up I don't know but it still works after I drained the excess although a pig to get going in the winter months. It's only a 2.5 hp unit and not belt driven like yours though.
