Hi all

I have a 998 mini city and am thinking about buying a 998 stage 3 cooper head for it.

questions:

Will it work on my mini?

What would the horse power increase be considering I have stage 1 kit on it already

Cheers
Henry

Yes it will give a increase in bhp if matched with other components to take advantage of the increased air flow, which will be items like Manifold Cooper Type, Exhaust System, Carburettor Needle.

The stage one kit if it contains some of the above can be reused, and the necessary adjustments made to the mixture/timing.

Hard to say what bhp on its own as a lot depends on the condition of the rest of your engine, at a guess a extra 5-8bhp, what you have to remember is the standard cam profile will be the limiting factor.

My brother built a 1964 Traveller in the 90s and the engine spec was very similar to what you are thinking of:

Late 80s A+ 998 block with standard cam. MiniSport Stage 3 small bore head and twin 1 1/4" SUs with a full Maniflow exhaust. It was extremely tractable and very well sorted. He had it rolling roaded at 55BHP and about 58lbft of torque with an extremely flat torque curve. The guy on the RR was amazed it was a standard cam.
