first one iswide end to subframe (thats what i did but i have seen it the other way)
second one is shorter bolt to the front (if you are talking about the rear mount)

The first, Rover in their wisdom started putting them with the flange against the trunion, for what reason I dont know, but I've ALWAYS put the widest end to the subframe... (just had to go and check )
the back as above, long stud to the rear.. think they do that just to make it difficult to get the subframe in

My gut feeling was widest end to the subframe at the front.
The rear one's had me stumped to a degree - can't see why it would make that much difference apart from it may be easier to get a spanner/socket on to the longer bolt at the back than the shorter one.

The front doesn't actually matter that much. if one side wears out, then the whole subframe is balanced centrally by the other bush.
The rear bolts as they came out mine were long bolt at the rear.
