Yes just remove the plate on the body, lift the baseplate attatch the unit and screw on, but if your engine is standard then it wont need a Aldon yellow. What spec is the motor if its been modified with a cam, head mods and more then its ok, otherwise of no advantage.
What spec is your engine Steve?

I dont know to be honest. All the seller said was -
998 Rebuilt to 1000cc high compression
HiF44 Carb
K&N filter
Head work
Maniflow Manifold
Maniflow Exhaust
Inlet manifold changed
Uprated ignition coil
Aldon Yellow Dizzy
Electronic Fuel pump
I asked about cams and he sort of said yea but didn't seem to know much on them

Well if its not a well sorted engine with a uprated camshaft, and head mods then I'd say you'd be better off with a standard 998 distributor with vacuum advance. Also the HIF44 is a bit big for a 998, HIF 38 would be better

Yea I have switched to a 38 now
If I fit a vacuum advance onto the Aldon will that be the best solution?

I dont think your engine is tuned enough to need more than a standard distributor Steve.
