:( IMO removing the roof seems makes them look bald.

Although I saw one the other day with roof seams left on until just after the front door (The front part was left on to stop water going in the door seals) the seams down the front widscreeen were left on for the same reason). It looked really good.

If you want to take the roof seam off, take it off..

Tis car your car, do what pleases you, not anyone else.

When i deseamed around the back of the roof, I cut out a section about 3" wide because it was rotten, I then made plates up, slid them through and welded it up.

Welding the roof to the body without plates should be fine if your a decent welder. Dont need it plated all the way.

Good luck plating over the top and beating it down. You'll be filling forever after.

Seriously though, I didnt plate the roof up. Cut back the seam, then grind it so there is 2-3mm of the panel lips left.

Then do the welding couple inches at a time, each time, giving the last weld a quick smack with panel hammer. This will make skimming over easier.

Grind the tips off the welds with soft grinding disk and it should be low enough to skim over.

But, if your welding really does need to be pretty damn good. Make sure your penetrating all the way along.

Usually, a good weld with be surrounded by blue from the heat. If you get a constant blue area the same all the way around, without burning any holes, your doing well.
