Does it clunk as you put it into reverse gear or when driving backwards? If it's when droning backwards, is it going straight back or when turning.
A regular clunking on a tight turn in reverse is one of the signs of a CV joint failing!

It's just when putting it into reverse. Although it didn't do it once today and had to put it in reverse a few times. Maybe is just how it is then. I just can't remember my others like that. Alright maybe a tiny bit sometimes, but just doesn't feel right on this one

It sounds like one of those "Must keep an eye on" issues. Keep watching it to see if it gets any worse. If you get used to it before it gets worse then you can forget it!

Reverse is what's known as a crash gear, unlike the forward gears which are constant mesh, the reverse is a gear which is physically moved to locate with two other gears.

If the gears in the gearbox are rotating then you will get a clunk or even a grind....

The rotation of the gears is either caused by the car not being stationary or the clutch dragging, the latter is the more probable cause which means you probably need to bleed your clutch hydraulics or replace the clutch.

Thanks guess works. Might be clutch dragging then. It's always stationary when engage reverse. First thing I done was bleed it which didn't make a difference. Might need a new clutch then >_<

I had to put it in reverse about 5 times yesterday and didn't do it once though

There is also the possibility that there is so little drag in the transmission that the clutch is just getting pulled round by the rotation of the flywheel, unlikely, but possible.

I doubt that there is an actual problem, only as has been said several times, a "crash" gear being engaged. There is always some residual clutch drag in a Mini, sometimes due to friction between primary gear and crankshaft, which doesn't happen on almost all other cars.

But you should also check that the exhaust to diff casing bracket is tight, and not broken, as well as the top and bottom steadies already advised.

Does it happen if you engage reverse with the engine not running? If so, check the gearchange linkage for wear, not that there is much to wear, mostly the roll pins.
