can someone make sense of this for me?

The trigger wheel should be mounted to the crank shaft front pulley. The missing tooth should pass the sensor when the engine is at 90* BTDC. It doesn’t need to be an exact 90*, as you will adjust the offset when calibrating the NODIZ. But aim for +/1 10* of accuracy here! Note that many engines, such as the Ford Zetec or Vauxhall C20XE Redtop, already have a suitable crank sensor and pulley arrangement built in, so you can utilise that if needed. If not, here is an example of a crank sensor and trigger wheel fitted to a Ford Pinto engine. This kit is available from us, as well are universal trigger wheels and crank sensors.

thanks

Okay so I guess you are aware that 90^o BTDC is 90 degrees before top dead center

So I would get cylinder 1 to 90^o before top dead center (Piston at the top) and then I guess you put the ring on to line up with the sensor.

I have no idea if that makes any sense to you or not.

to piston 1 right at the top?

then put the trigger wheel with the tooth missing to 90* to the left?

like if it was quarter too on a clock?:L

This is the Omex guide but its the same principle, check out page 6 - http://omextechnolog...Manual 2v01.pdf

also this may help - http://www.theminifo...se#entry2910270

Also Piston #1 passes twice for a cycle so make sure your on the firing stroke i.e both valves closed and the rotor arm pointing to number 1 plug or about one o'clock position

edit - also this - http://www.theminifo...megajolt-guide/

No that makes it easier, put the push rods back in and place a ruler across the top of the rods to check #1 inlet, exhaust are closed (push rods are down) and rotor arm at 1 o'clock.

Have a look here:

I know it's not Nodiz but the trigger wheel setup is the same.

To set the 90 degree point with the head off is very easy indeed. All you have to do is turn the crankshaft pulley nut clockwise, measuring the heights of pistons 1 and 2 below the top face of the block. When they are equal, piston 1 rising, you are at 90 degrees. A steel rule will do for measuring the piston height, as it is a much more sensitive test than setting to TDC, which requires a dial indicator, and even then is somewhat imprecise.

Why do people have to complicate things?

Not fitted yet, but I think I know what I'm doing now,

What did you end up doing for the crank sensor bracket?

The trigger wheel they sent me is huge!!!

I got a mini specific bracket kit. It had sensor, coil pack and trigger wheel brackets.
