Hello,

I picked up a '71 Morris Mini 1000 last sunday and have been doing all the digging and learning about this car. While looking into my odometer and speedometer fixes, I noticed there are several wires behind the dash/gauge cluster that are unplugged.

Can anyone please help me identify what those disconnected wires and plugs are? and where do they connect to?

Also I noticed a couple vacuum hoses are missing and one is plugged up by the carburetor.

Any info will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

Not too sure about the cables. I think number 9 is a bulb housing to illuminate the Speedo dial.

The blanked off hose on the carb is the same as mine. I think it's for the crankcase breather hose, but my hose connects to the air filter casing. I notice you have a K&N filter unit on so it might be worth seeing where your breather hose goes. It may terminate on an aftermarket filter.

Numbers 2 and 3 in the far right photo are the inlet and outlet hose connections for the screenwash motor.

Thanks for the reply. The breather tube on top of the valve cover is indeed opened to atmosphere. Nothing is connected.  Number 2 and 3 explains why the washer doesn't squirt any water.

Thank you! the 2 white/black wires are electrical tapped to 2 green wires. Are those not factory either?  This list is super helpful.  I will look through it.

Trivial point.  When specifying two-tone wires, you say/type the dominant color first.  Those are not white/black wires, they are black/white.

You said the black/white wires are taped to green wires.  Are they the lighter green wires shown to the right of your hand?  Do the other ends of the green wires go to the fuel and temperature gauges?  If so, the terminal on the spliced black/white wires goes to the terminal on the voltage stabilizer marked with the letter " I ".

thank you sir!  you are spot on! i plugged 5 into 6. and the fuel and temp gauges are now working.

sorry for my newbie mistake, I will remember black/white wires.

this is what i've gathered so far, please help correct if i got them wrong. the wires look dirty.

1 - light Green and pink - emergency flasher

2 - light Green and yellow - left flasher

3 - Main battery feed

4 - Speedometer light housing

5 - Fuel and temp gauge spliced together

6 - voltage stabilizer

7 - voltage stabilizer

8 - voltage stabilizer

9 - Speedometer Light plug

Vacuum

1 - Breather pipe

2 - screen washer hose connect

3 - screen washer hose connect

The weird thing is, both my left and right signal flashers work. But they only work if my emergency hazard switch is turned on. the emergency flasher doesn't work. So makes me wonder those cut wires maybe hacked and connected to the emergency flasher's power some how.

I had a similar (ish) problem with indicators and emergency flasher... turned out to be bad contacts inside the emergency flasher unit. I carefully took it apart (watch out for springs/contacts flying at you!) cleaned the contacts, reassembled it and it now works fine :)

   Cheers,

   Colin.

P.S.

Where in California are you? I'm Santa Rosa (70 miles north of San Francisco)
