Hey guys,

Just a quick question if any of you have any thoughts to cast on it.

I have recently noticed my 1991 Mini City E has a quiet but high pitched noise coming from the engine.
It seems the noise only really becomes apparent when the engine is up to temperature. There is no change in volume pitch or any change at all, with either more revs or in a different gear. The noise is there whether idling or not.

Obviously as this noise is pretty quiet, once the car is up to a good speed the engine noise itself drowns it out, so is hard to tell whether it is still there or not.

I am unsure whether the noise is new either, only because over the past few months I have been using the heater, which again drowns out the high pitched noise. Only noticed it as with the nicer whether we have been having I haven't needed the heater on at all.

I'm not completely worried about this as the car seems to be running just fine, but always best to ask just to see if any of you have any thoughts. Only recent change to the car is a new distributor (as the old one knackered itself out), but don't think this has caused it (unless obviously the noise is coming from the new distributor itself...).

Thanks for any help in advance!

Steven.

You could check the alternator and water pump bearings.

Use a long piece of wood or a long screwdriver as a stethoscope to see of its coming from either.

Keep your clothes hair and any other dangling objects clear!

Likely to be from alternator or a vacuum leak at some point (ie distributor vacuum, servo, breathers etc )

Air leak from carb maybe I changed a carb gasket on my 998 years ago and didn't get all the old gasket off and it's sounded like a super charger
