Mini city 1992 998cc
I set my mixture a couple of weeks ago using a colourtune plug and thought I had done it correctly.
Today the car went out for the first test drive in two years and I run it for almost half an hour around the industrial estate (no tax and really didn't want to be seen lol)
When I got home she started to cut out and I had to increase the idle speed to keep her from cutting out completely.
I checked the spark plugs and they are black suggesting the mixture is too rich but it was ok when I set it using the colourtune.
Would this of happened if I hadn't run it up to temp properly when I had set it? I wasn't in a position to drive the car at the time

Is the timing too far retarded?
That could cause the plug colour you describe.
Not enough time for fuel to burn completely.

Engine needs to be up to temp for colour tune. Could be a float bowl float gap issue, or a worn carb jet / needle or many other things. Have you done checks on the carb etc. Start checking through the simple stuff as its not likely to be anything complex or expensive to fix.

When I set it up I couldn't drive the car so I did it stationary after the car had run for a while. I think I will redo it now that I can drive it and reset it.
Timing was checked before and after and seems spot on

Was it 8 degrees at 1500 as per Haynes?
I found mine ran better a bit more advanced than that. Probably around 12 deg
But as said probably best to warm up engine fully and try colour tune again first.

Can remember if that was the setting but it was per the haynes manual so it may be worth looking at
