I'd be more inclined to approach a machine shop with your existing head and give them all the engine/cam info so they can build a decent head. Someone like MED spring to mind but there are loads. I use VMAX only as they are very close to me and they built the entire engine / box.

Nothing bad about Mini Spares or Mini Sport, I use them both very regulalry for parts, but just advising you can get a bespoke head made if you look into it a bit more and not an off the shelf solution that may not give the best for your £.

As above really.

The best way to build a better engine is to write your desired specification and then to buy the necessary parts yourself which best meet that specification.

What is the car to be used for? Work up an engine specification to achieve that.

The expression 'Stage xx' means nothing really as it is a sales term used by parts vendors. It is not an engineering term in any sense.

Read as much as you can about how engine performance can be improved to suit different uses, then go from there.

Before doing any modifications to an engine it is absolutely vital that the engine is in superb condition in respect of piston to bore seal and bore wear, big-end & main bearings, oil pressure and timing chain.

Consider getting a head from Phil as you can see the quality of his work. Then find the carb you want and a good inlet manifold. Buy the right exhaust from Mini Spares and either an RC40 or Maniflow system to match it.

Put it all together accurately and carefully then get it set-up on a rolling road.

However, please heed my comment about making sure your existing engine is in tip-top condition or you will find that adding power, which will probably mean using higher revs, will mean you need a full engine re-build sooner rather than later. I have seen that so often and it is normally best, when modifying the top end, to strip and do a precautionary re-build of the bottom end plus the diff, checking the gearbox at the same time.
