Wonder if you can help. I have a '96 Cooper SPi. Runs fine - until it cuts out, usually in the most annoying places!
Fuel pump does not whine and therefore fuel not getting through. However, gentle tap on the side of the fuel tank kicks everything back into life and off I go again. It's happening more and more.
An AA guy told me it was the fuel pump - he said if there is any wear to it then it might catch and stop spinning. True or not before I go down the expensive new fule pump route. All electrics seem fine, it's not the cut off switch etc.
