So what is the best go pro type camera for recording what you do in your car on a budget of under £150 (or near enough to) but as cheep as possible without it being useless.
What would you recommend and how would you rate the different ones available?

I don't use it in my car, I use it for mountain biking, but I use a Contour Roam2 camera. It's a HD action camera and the quality is great, does 720p 60fps and 1080p 30fps.

On Amazon they are around £140-£150. There are loads of mounts available, and no doubt one will be able to mount the camera wherever you want it.

The Contour software is ok, but quite basic. Only useful for changing the settings on the camera and importing the video's. I think the Contour's are great value, I got one because I couldn't afford a GoPro.

Cheers,

Cameron.

The best camera to use depends on what you want to do with the footage.

I bought my Hero3 Black edition from play.com (pixel electronics) which was £222 at the time. It then shot up again but sometimes a bargain can be had - I also use my phone to connect to the GO PRO's wifi and can control it/adjust settings or use the remote.

Is it possible to use your phone? Buy a window mounted universal phone holder and bob's your uncle.

I use a Mobius Action Cam on my small quad helicopter, it films in HD 1080p at 60 frame per second and costs around £60.

+1 on the möbius, they are brilliant for the money. I use a couple of go pros at work on our race cars and they are better quality but a lot more expensive. If I was buying one for in car footage then I would go for the möbius, the go pros are better for use if it will be in 'rougher' environments.

I use a Veho Muvi on my helmet when karting. It's small enough that it fits right on the chin for a drivers eye view. For the price it's excellent but a tad unreliable on the bumps - seems to stop recording randomly on rare occasions. Probably because it fell off the mount and went sliding down the track at 80mph. I'm sure it would be a lot better in a nice smooth car, not exposed to wind noise etc.
