A quick jump in here guys - I dont have a pressure gauge, but as I got to work this morning the oil pressure light came on when I parked up - not sure how old the oil is (supposedly changed a year ago just before I bought the car), could it just be in need of oil and filter change or something more serious? No leaks, no mayonaise on filler cap and rad coolant was still clear.
Got to drive 16 miles home after work - I guess the test will be if the light comes back on again when I set off. Any advice welcome. Cheers

Did that - appeared to be near the top mark on the dipstick so checked it a few times - each the same, but oil seemed really thin which is what made me think that it may be in need of a change?

Please don't take offense at the following question but... are you sure it is the oil pressure light? Red = charge warning light, Amber/Orange = oil pressure.

A year is too long between oil changes. Get the oil changed (I do it every 3000 miles)

I would say change the oil, I changed mine about 4000 miles ago and am now seeing issues related to oil pressure, mine takes a couple of seconds for the oil pressure light to go off at start up and my oil pressure is now sitting about 25-30 psi at idle when hot which has dropped from 40psi at idle when hot which it used to be.
So change out the oil and give the old girl a service, then report back with any issues if you are still getting them :)

Ah, lost my internet connection for a mo!
It has had a new binnacle and both warning indicators are red - this is the one with the oil lamp and not the battery picture. To be sure though I will trace the wiring back, you never know! Not done a lot of miles in the year, spent most of winter in the garage, but I was getting ready for a service anyway prior to L2B next month and just got oil, plugs and filter yesterday - best get on with it and then I will let you guys know if all is good.
Thanks for all the help (I dont take any offence at any advice - always accepted in the spirit intended and thats to provide help, so no worries
)
Cheers

If it all turns out on the wiring to be ok, then check the oil pressure with a gauge to confirm and then if your readings are reaching the factory oil pressure of the standard relief valve of 60lbf/in2, Then change the oil pressure switch.
