I'd say twin hs2's as a hif44 is a little big for your engine , but I'm sure someone will be along to put me right if I'm wrong

Cheers james

Neither.. HIF38.

Twins/44 will be overkill on a standard 998.

Carbs don't make power.

They won't be able to flow any more fuel into the engine as the head and cam is the limiting factor.

Better get a decent cylinder hear as that is the key to improved performance with all A-series engines. The carb(s) can only feed mixture to the cylinders in an amount the head will allow.

what others are saying is true.

i would also add that twins, despite looking cool, and being great for bragging, have never made a noticable difference when i did a back to back test on a customers car a while back. in my opinion they are more hassle than they are worth.

lets face it, one carb is always going to be 50% less fettling/tuning/maintenance/cleaning etc than twin carbs are going to be!

The John Cooper conversion kits developed with Janspeed replaced single carbs (HS4 on 998 and HIF44 on 1275) with twin HS2s. I am sure John Cooper and Jan Odor had good reason to do this but it is important to note that these changes were combined with improved cylinder heads.

Tim Mundy in "Mini Performance Manual" says "There are advantages with both single-carb and twin-carb set-ups. Twin SUs look excellent and often feel more responsive and willing than a large single carb."
