My mini seems to run very hot ( recent 1330 rebuild ) but not boil a couple of people said try it with no thermostat a friend of mine had a similar problem and ran without a thermostat with no issues for years, are there dangers of running no thermostat?

Not good without a thermostat because number 3 & 4 cylinders will get very little coolant flow, the water pump will only pump water through the thermostat end and back into the radiator, either get a new thermostat or at least use a blanking sleeve.

Yes, it can lead to hot spots in the engine around cylinder 3 and 4 because even if you fit a sleeve it changes the coolant flow through the block. It will also make the engine take longer to warm up, and removes all temperature regulation. Thermostatic cooling was a major advance in engine design.

In the 1930s.

Is it running hot on the gauge? Is the gauge correct?

Is the mixture right? Timing correct?

IT's better to fix the cause than the effect!

You can just drill two 1/8'' holes in the thermostat. Dont run without one.

But as above, fix the cause rather than tampering the effect..

The engine does need tuned since the rebuild and the plugs are very white but i was told a leaner mixture is better for running in, the temp sender was changed and it reads almost 120c

Was the engine properly flushed out during/after the rebuild, could there be debris inside restricting water flow? Might be an idea to back flush the radiator too.
