I've bought an Astrali steering wheel that's not in great condition, I want to polish up the spokes to a mirror finish and get the leather/vinyl back to good condition.

Are there any products people can recommend?

This is how it currently looks

I've tried using my polishing kit on it, but that's too coarse and is just putting scratches into it.

It may well be chromed, how do you tell?

I need to get some Autosol to do my wheels, so I'll try that.

Cheers

Just from looking at it, plus the top pic there is a tiny bit of rust around the left mounting hole, which leads me to believe its steel, you could get it re chromed

Well I'll give it a going over with Autosol, see if that helps any.

Any suggestions as to what to do about the vinyl? I've used Dubbin which helped it a bit, but are there any products that people know works?

Its fine putting scratches into it, I would carry on with that polishing kit, and when you have gone over the whole thing you will need a finer polishing compound, and work your way up to remove all scratches.

Polishing is just putting scratches into something, the finer the polish the smaller the scratches if that makes sense

But Autosol would be where I would go I recon, see how it looks after that, toothpaste may also work (sensitive stuff as thats finer)

That's what I thought, but the above pics are after I used the finest compound. Looks like I need to go even finer.

Yup. Go from 800 to say 2500. Had polished lips on a previous car and that method with Autosol afterwards got them like a mirror.
