Hey Everyone!

I live in Germany and purchased a 1989 mini that was sold in Germany originally.  I plan on moving to the USA in a few months and want to ship the car there.  There are complications to shipping the vehicle to the states unless the car is an exact match to a car already sold there or if the vehicle is 25 years old or older.  I'm aiming for the ladder, however, I understand that the age is determined to the day.  My registration is for August 28th of 1989, and I need to move before that.  From what I understand, the date on the title matches that of the first registration and not necessarily the date of manufacture in Germany.  I have an identification number that seems to be a bit weird and I was wondering...

How would I determine the date of manufacture of my car from the ID number?  Is there any official documentation I can locate that can prove this?  I think the car was built in the UK and shipped to Germany but I could be wrong...  Does the following sound like some sort of ID number to anyone: SAXXL2S1S21434243

Cheers!

Try contacting the heritage centre, technically they say they only hold records for minis up to 1981 but they may be able to help, also the car will have a build date which will be before it's first registration date this could be very helpful to you as it may give you the age you require to satisfy the USA.

Removethe drivers side rear light unit, there may be a sticker from when the light unit was made?! I know my 2 SPI cars have such tags

They will be stamped with the month followed by the year ( like this: 03/89)

Thats not going to be paper evidence for the op's purpose though, also the lights are made in batches possibly months or years before hand. Guitars are dated in that way, using the date code on the electrical components, if the soldering is untouched it proves how old it could be but it could have been finished years after.
