Hi,

I'm considering buying a 1968 Mini Mrk2 or 1979 Austin Mini 1000, as my main car, yet I was warned that such would be ill advised since it tends to malfunction, and mostly, cease to run when it comes into contact with water (from where I'm from a little rain can cause the roads to flood with an average of 1/2 - 1 feet of water).  My questions are as follow:  What are the merits of this statement? And if such is a major problem what could be done to solve it?

Thanks in advance,

John.

Welcome to TMF.

With routine maintenance a mini can be as reliable as any other car.

I wouldn't be hammering through a foot of water in my 2009 mazda 6 diesel, let alone my mini as big diesels with low air intakes don't like water either.

Having said that, many rallying minis go through water on stages and don't immediately brake down.
