Some will disagree with this but I lubed them with a little grease and squeezed them in with a vise and some blocks of wood. It still wasn't easy installing them in the car but a little lube made them slide in just enough to get the first couple of threads on.

They really shouldn't be lubricated because the bushes shouldn't be allowed to rotate in the arm once in use (and certainly not with copper grease as it corrodes rubber!). Just a mole wrench used to pinch the round head of the pin into place in the frame is usually enough, and remember not to finally torque the lower arm tightly into place until the weight is on the wheels and the bushes have settled to their normal operating position.

Yes, lots of us are going to disagree with the advice about using grease, because it seriously rots rubber, and as Dan says, the bush must never be allowed to rotate. But you can use liquid soap, the stuff you might use on your hands or face. Preferably not washing-up liquid, which was widely used and recommended in various magazines, until someone pointed out that it contains lots of salt, which may of course explain why the bolts are often difficult to remove, due to rust.

Best to use nothing as Dan has stated already. Plenty of liquid soaps also have salt in them Tiger99...

Well done! It will be easier next time, and being a Mini, there will be a next time, because Mini ownership is a harmless form of addiction, and things do wear out eventually....
