My 998 auto is having trouble changing from 3rd to 4th.

It gets there eventually but revs like crazy when changing.

Please tell me it is a simple fix.

Is this shifting in drive or shifting manually from 3rd to 4th ?

Check the length of the dickdown rod - this acts directly on the pump governor, and will change the gearchange points.

Check the length of the dickdown rod - this acts directly on the pump governor, and will change the gearchange points.

just to add, its adjustment is made from underneath the car. The rod has a threaded part that you turn into or out of the arm that disappears inside the gear box housing (after disconnecting the top end from the throttle linkage) That essentially changes the length of the governor control rod which changes the points at which the box changes gear.

Proper setting of this involves locking the bell crank in relation to the gearbox casing using a rod or suitably sized drill bit.

Mine changes into 4th at about 20 mph which seems too slow at times but I believe thats how they left the factory.
