The indicators on my daughter's MK3 1976 Mini 1000 don't seem to cancel unless I turn through about 120 degrees. Is this normal or is there something I haven't done, or should do, that will fix it?

Thanks, Paul.

Usually the steering wheel boss in wrong orientation.  there should be a lug pointing vertical on it.

There is a plastic block screwed to the steering column. Should that be pointing vertically when the wheels are straight?

Thanks, Paul.

There is a white collar on the switch that sits over the column (on most switches at least). It has a small arrow moulded into the front of it, pointing at the column. You need the wheel off to see it. This arrow needs to be on the right of centre in RHD cars (and vice versa) in the straight ahead position. If this is out of sync with the wheel, or the collar itself out of sync with the switch internals, you have to turn too far for cancelling. If the collar is in the right place but you still have to turn too far then it means the collar is out of position with the rest of the switch. If you like you can turn the collar with the wheel off so it's technically the wrong way around and it will fix it, or you can take apart the switch and realign the collar with it. Or you can just do what was probably done to get it into this condition in the first place. There is a small chance of damaging the switch doing this but I've risked it and fixed cars before and never broken one yet. You have to hold the indicator on while turning it through the cancel position (it will feel like it's breaking even if it isn't) but you need to be turning the wheel back towards the straight ahead I seem to remember.

Thanks for the replies I'm going to see if I can get my head round that lot and have a look tomorrow.

Cheers, Paul.
