My 98 cooper's MPI engine died a while back.

Managed to secure a replacement engine week or so ago.

It has been fitted today, runs and drives beautifully, but will not idle any lower than 1200 rpm.

Used to do it occasionally on the old engine too.

Any ideas, its driving me mad!

Cheers

I'm no expert so don't take my word on it but did you setup the throttle cable correctly? Haynes manual tells you how to do this I believe.

Maybe an air leak, Or stepper motor.

Like I said, no expert but from what I have read they could be possibilities! :)

Good luck!
Cam.

Most common issue is an air leak causing high idle.
But you should have set up the throttle cable correctly and the idle throttle stop (for which you need a loan of a code reader).

Check for leaks first.

I would definantly say leaks first, after that throttle cable. Ur more often than not all my experience with high idle have been an air leak, and I have just found mine I believe, mine wood to drop. Below 1000, until I took the whole exhaust system off this weekend and have found a leak in my inlet

Does anyone have an IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) for an MPI?
