Hi all.
I'm in need of a torque wrench that does left hand threads. I have a older draper, it has a large range and is a nice tool for a low frequency user like me.
I'm rebuilding my sub and need one that can do left hand also.
I want to one day shell out for a halfords pro...but I can't a the moment.
I spotted this on eBay.....
http://m.ebay.co.uk/...2397?nav=SEARCH
I know it's really budget but does anyone have a opponinon ? Will it be ok for my hub nut ? It's the only left hand thing I need it for currently. What else is out there for £40?

Thanks all
Theo

My Norbar wrench does just that :-)

You need a 3/4" drive wrench for hub nuts in my humble opinion

Don't buy cheap torque wrenches - it's a waste of time and money

I know. I hate buying stuff twice, but I'm in a pinch and a rush. So I'm looking at all my options haha.
How come you recommend a 3/8 not a 1/2 ?

3/4" not 3/8" ......1/2" is towards the top end of it's range for hub nuts.

Torque wrenches need to be calibrated and capable of keeping that degree of calibration through thier working lives, depends on how much you are going to use it if your going into the gearbox your looking for an imperial wrench capable of tightening up to 150lb.Personally I would avoid the cheaper wrenches you need to convert the metric settings

I had a really cheap torque wrench, mainly for wheel nuts etc.

We get the torque wrenches calibrated at work, so dropped it in the pile. It came back within tolerance, whereas others needed adjusting.

Haha you did have me confused for a moment there.
I don't really have any future use planned for the wrench. Hmm I'll see why else there is available.

Imperial or metric is neither here nor there - most are dual.

they should all be checked periodically and never used as a breaker bar.

Does anyone know of a reversible that'll do for the odd jobs ?
If I never had my draper I would buy a halfords pro. I just can't justify spending £80 when I have a ok one at the moment. Or could I get a half way decent one for £50 that would do both ok ?

Thank you all for your info so far by the way. Really appreciate it!

Can't you push the square through on yours?

If not, just hold it with your left hand :-)

Nope it's "reversible" which is totally misleading. It basically can undo.... not that you ever want to undo anything with a torque wrench.
But won't flip or click in reverse.

If he's after one to work a left hand thread we are talking about rear hubs, not front. A 1/2" wrench will be fine.

Yep sorry should of made that clear. Just the rear hubs I'm looking at doing. Hence the unwillingness of spending a fortune. Just paid for the summer holiday :-D hahah

Ok guys it's update time......
She who must be obeyed has had enough of me using the iPad every evening trying to find a torque wrench.
She has offered to buy me both the halfords professional wrenches.....on the STRICT condition that I'll never need to buy one again!

If she got the
Halfords Professional Torque Wrench 8-60Nm
And the
Halfords Professional Torque Wrench 40-200Nm
Would that cover most the range I am ever likely to need ?
I wish there was something that went from 30-180 so I could get away with one.

Any ideas would be ace. I'm so going to pay for this !

Thanks all,
Theo
