Hi, Anyone know if if its possible to fit a manual rod change engine/gearbox into a 1972 auto, ive been told its not as the transmission tunnel is not big enough? any advice welcomed. Thanks Martin.

yes you can but modifications will be needed to convert the transmission tunnel (there might be a plate covering up a suitable hole but that might be wrong?), you will need a manual front subframe though or auto to manual conversion mounts. If you do a search there's loads of topics and I think I saw a step by step guide once

you could use a pre rod change gear box though without shell mods

Rob, Thanks for the reply, the tunnel on mine does seem to be slightly wider and not as high as my mates manual, thats why i asked, ive just got cables in mine, and want to be sure theres room for the rods before i splash out. Martin.

You dont need to modify the tunnel on rod change I have just done the conversion and you dont need a subframe either

You need
Clutch master
Clutch slave
Engine and box
And auto to manual engine mount kit comes with spacer plates just need to elongate a few holes on one side
And drill new holes for the mounts (very easy)

Gear selector
And a clutch pedal with spring
Alot of people say you need a full pedal box but you dont
Pipe work from clucth slave and master

You dont need to modify the tunnel on the later autos as they use the same bodyshell, but im not sure on mine which is a 72, maybe an easier option is to get a 1275 auto( its currently an 850 !!!!) to give me a bit more go, would that fit ok? Martin.
