Wheeler-dealers, the Austin mini mk1

Basically the deal is they have to go out find, buy, fix/repair, and then sell for a profit an old classic motoring icon on a budget of 1k,
Plus interviews of owners and test-drives of a mint example of whatever car they are working on.

For those that won’t be up at that time, tape it!

Tonight - Tuesday 13th
Mini part 1, auto–lover, Mike Brewer and mechanic Edd China are getting under the bonnet of a classic second-hand car and fixing up an original Austin mini.

Disc real time channel 250 at 12.30AM,
Repeated on Disc real time +1 channel 251 at 1.30AM

~

Tomorrow - Wednesday 14th
Mini part 2, an original Austin mini is undergoing a mechanical make over, Mike Brewer and mechanic Edd China aim to get this second-hand classic back on the road.

Disc real time channel 250 at 12.30AM,
Repeated on Disc real time +1 channel 251 at 1.30AM

As far as I know it’s only on the sky channels,

Im guessing this is the almond green one.

If you are referring to this one
[attachment=16886:attachment]

Then yes it is, but there might be some people who haven’t seen it,
As some of the jobs covered are commonly asked on hear.

This programme is the only place I have ever seen anyone replace half an A panel  Also puts the boot handle on the wrong way round if memory serves me correctly. AND didn't they get lucky buying the car at that price !!!!

see knew someone wanted to watch it

Suppose if the rest is solid then it would be easer to replace a small bit,
As on a mk1 the a panel is part of the support/hinge for the door.

It was a lucky buy...especially in that condition :)

He only replaced half the A panel to save on money...personally I would be happy to buy it at the end for the price they asked...and I would restore it again only properly :P not that they don't do a bad job (well he didn't even try to restore some of the chrome bits...just bought new >:w00t: )

I'd ask for everything that came off and I'll stop now because I'm rambling

But which saddistic sod fitted a glass sunroof to it? Pity that couldn't be corrected as it clashes with the rest of the car. Not that there's anything wrong with glass sunroofs mind, it's just it doesn't look right on earlier Mini's and a Webasto would look much better?

First of all, how exactly do you save money on replacing half a panel when you are doing the work yourself? At a push, you could maybe save 3p on welding wire, but not the way he did it!

And to be honest, I've not seen such a bad bodge job. They conveniently glossed over the holes in the outer edge of the scuttle, and we all know what that means........ Oh, and back on the A-panel subject, did anyone see the reinforcements get fixed? I certainly didn't! :)

At least we have the reg number to avoid buying it. (unless it ends up dirt cheap as all that stuff he did has to be done again!)

Lol! While I think aswell, remember the hole he noticed under the petrol tank? You know the one , near the MOT fail point of the rear subby mounting....... Didn't see a lot of that getting fixed either!

While I understand they have a lot to get into a half hour show, it doesn't reflect well on them.....

It's purely a TV show not to be taken very seriously, well I hope not anyway...!
I think that's the reason Edd left the show because he was asked to put his name to work which he never done.

The interview I saw quite a while ago - Edds problem was they wanted to not focus on the mechanics/repairs anymore as its very costly to film, which he didnt like. He was right as the new version I find unwatchable. Watching the repairs was the usp to me.

I believe behind the scenes there were several people working on the cars (pre hand picked cars at that).
