Engine Wont Turn ! What To Check

Hi

I am after a 1275 engine, the guy who is selling it told me that the engine is complete out of a car, but it wont turn , and he doesnt know why, so he is selling it cheaply..

What i want to know, is how do i check this kind of engine, so after i dont buy it and wont work at all..

If it's out of the car, and can't be turned by hand, it could be seized. If the head is removed, I've heard you can put diesel in the bores and leave it to soak which should free them up. I've never done this myself but have seen it mentioned a few times on here.

warm the oil or diesel up in a saucepan old of course and pour it in the bores then see if it will turn

As above, diesel poured through the spark plug holes and time.  Don't man-handle the engine.  When you try to turn it (after giving the diesel days to soak), turn the engine in the forward direction, then backwards.  Keep changing between forward and backwards turning to get the pistons oscillating a bit.  It will help work the diesel into the nooks and crannies.
