Our instructions were "take them up to 150ft/lbs and keep on winding til the hole for the split pin lines up" we did this and had to max out the torque wrench at 250ft/lbs to get them to line up. Is this the normal?

You only need to use the torque wrench for the torque setting part of the tightening procedure. You use a breaker bar to go the rest of the way. If your wrench is a clicker and you drove it past the setting you had dialed in, or if it's any type and you drove it off the end of the scale, you should get it calibrated.

That is definitely normal.

 

I used a torque wrench to do mine and then a table leg as a breaker bar to get it to go the rest of the way. I haven't got much mass but I had to pretty much hang off the breaker bar to get it to go the rest of the way round.

We tried the Snap-on breaker bar but it was too much for it. As we don't have a3/4 inch breaker bar we used the torque wrench. Don't think I overstretched it. The holes did line up at 250, im just asking if that sounds about normal?

As long as the disc rotates on the hub without any binding then you'll be fine!
