I'm going to start buying the parts for my Austin 1300gt engine, and i was just wondering if i'd missed anything out on my shopping list, or there is anything i shouldn't bother getting.

Any help would be great

Main Bearings

Big end bearings

Thrust washers

Gasket sets: Engine gasket set, gearbox gasket set etc

duplex timing chain

Piston rings

Fuel pump: Unsure of what is best, not sure if going to run twin HS4 or HIF44

Fast road Clutch

Clutch Diaphragm, Blue

10 row oil cooler

high capacity water pump, & pulley

Anything i may have missed? I'm more just getting the engine back up and running, opposed to modifying it.

Many thanks

Yams

You would want to replace all the oil gallery and core plugs as well.

Check and measure bores to see if it need reboring and not rings, same on crank journals

Engine building lube. Torco Cam lube. You should always replace the followers as good practice. What about your cylinder head? That surely should need a look over/valves reground/hardened valve seats done?

See if you can borrow an engine stand - it's a godsend!

Yep, cam followers should always be replaced regardless of whether it is a used or new cam being fitted.

The engine had done around 50,000 miles. The bores don't look to bad to me, but obviously my eye is, well, 'untrained'.

Would an engine with this millage need to be honed? If so would the honing mean i would need bigger pistons? In an ideal world i do not wish to go up a piston size.

only by measuring will you know if a hone will do or if a rebore is needed, we're talking about very tight tolerances here - not something that can be seen - only measured.

Honing would require just new rings, a rebore would require new pistons and rings

the best way to start with this is to strip, inspect and measure, then you'll be able to start a shopping list/machining list

I think if you're going to all this effort to rebuild it, you should do it properly so it will last. New pistons. County pistons are quite cheap, tt also good quality.
