Hi guys, another question for you all. Are the inner racers supposed to meet in the middle ? I may just give up and get two sets of gen bearings.

 

Yes, or depending on type, the extension on the inner racer or the spacer is supposed to be calculated so that bearing is correctly preloaded.

Morning all,
Does anyone know if the "gen" rear bearings from mini spares are any good ? They don't say timken on them anywhere. I am thinking that I may just get 2 sets and two new hubs.
EDIT:
Guys can anyone confirm what way round the seal should go ? Could this cause the issues ?

Phone up Somerford minis and just ask for timkin ones, ur doing the right thing mate, I had this problem for days and even had a topic on here, it's the non genuine bearings, I learnt my lesson

That's exactly what I have just done !
Fingers crossed they turn up and fit straight on.

Hi Theo,

You should be ok with the genuine bearings.

The oil (grease) seal should be tapped in with the solid rubber side facing outwards towards you. The inner edge will be open all the way round with a circular spring embedded into the seal to keep tension on the seal lip and this should face towards the inside of the hub....hope this makes sense!!!

When you tap the seal in, make sure it sits flush with the hub outer rim.

Hi all,

I just got a set of timken bearings today from sumerford. I did one side tonight. Not only did they tap in great but they greased up sat in place and torqued up like a dream!!
I even went a quater turn to the next pin and I can still turn it with one finger.
Fingers crossed the other side is just as easy.

It's finally done ! Both the timken bearings went on without a hitch. Slipped on, torqued up and feel totally fine!
