hi

am i right in thinking you can use a normal hif 44 from a NA engine on a turbo engine if you buy the right kit?
what inlet manifold can you use? a normal one from a NA engine or does it have to be a metro turbo one?
also is it worth spending the extra cash and buying a reconditioned metro turbo hif 44? if i was to do this what inlet manifold could i use?

its going on a 1293 t2 turboed a series (just incase you didnt know!!)

cheers
josh

you can use a normal hif44 converted to turbo spec, which will basically be the same as the turbo one. you can use an na manifold with no problems, but the turbo one was designed for the job and gives more even mixture distribution between cylinders. if youre using the mirage kit (which iirc youre not) its designed to fit an na mg metro inlet

i have seen turbo ones go on ebay without the groove are they wrong?

Do you mean around the top ? If so, yes, this was where a little clip sat to supposedley hold the dashpot plunger in place.

All Turbo carbs are sealed around the dashpot.

i dont really trust the ones i see on ebay as most dont have the groove round the top of the dash pot! although they say they are metro turbo carbs!
i dont want to spend £100s on a carb as theres loads of other bits i need to get and i think money wil start to get a wee bit tight!
what is the best way of doing it? just get a na hif 44 and modding it to be a turbo type or having to splash out loads on a proper turbo carb?
how much would it cost to mod one? is it an easy job you can do at home or is there a lot of machining to be done etc?

cheers

i would say unless you know what you are doing with modifying the carb then your best off buying a turbo one...

All you need to do is buy a turbo repair kit (PM Turbo Phil as he sell them at a good price) and rebuild a standard NA carb to convert it to turbo use, easy. No machining needed.

There is a guide to rebuilding on Turbo Minis here http://www.turbomini...p...vt&tid=2878

There was a guide on how to convert an NA to a turbo, but I can't find it.
