Well i have recently installed a aldons electronic ignitor into my 1275cc mini.

The engine:

standard engine 1996 converted back to carb (hif44)

lucas sport coil

aldon yellow distributor

aldon electronic ignitor

sportex exhaust

lcb manifold

Pancake jr racing filter (K&N Style)

When i installed the ignitor the engine started right up. We then checked the timing and it was about 13degress and advancing correctly. I then ran the mini for 3 journeys in that day one about 10miles and the other 2 about 6miles. I then parked up the mini for the night. I then went to go start it in the morning and it fired on choke straight away but then died, and would not fire again. i then decided it must be a fuel issue and checked it was getting into the carb and it was with good pressure. I then checked the spark on all 4 cylinders and it is healthy and strong. I am lost for ideas any help would be appreciated. I need to done before london to brighton PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Side note, it will fire when brake cleaner is sprayed into the filter which is a pancake jr racing one.

How old is the fuel? What ignition set up do you have (dizzy or dizzyless?)

Dump the aldon and get the original back. This dizzy is for upgraded camshafts etc, and will lose you power .

Sounds like a vac leak though..

I am suspecting vacuum leak at the manifold/carb,so a broken gasket ;)

Why did you fit the aldon yellow?

I would check with the original too if it is still working? Rules out problems with the don + gives correct curve for your spec atm.. Goodluck!

Why change the Dizzy if the engine runs by spraying cleaner down the carb?. I suggest if you have good fuel flow to the carb then maybe the carb needs a service or as suggested check for air leaks between carb and head. once running, then worry about what Dizzy should be used.

I'm guessing that there is no original dizzy to refit - it's an SPi converted to carb.

Do you still have the SPi tank installed, or was it changed for a normal tank and fuel pump ?
If it s the original tank, do you have a fuel pressure regulator installed inline to drop the FI pressure down to a more acceptable level for a carb ?

Indeed it does. But there is more than one, and if its wrong it could/would cause running issues

Absolutely! LOL. I am still thinking dirty carb or blocked fuel supply though due to firing on carb/brake cleaner. might be worth trying a capfull of petrol down the throat too. But i admit this would not run long enough to show up a hot coil or other such fault.

Because it can be difficult to start with wrong advance..
