Hi Bluemoon, only solid discs I'm afraid with the standard 2 POT AP calipers, of course drilled discs as in the MiniSport sure stop are fine but again proper centrally vented discs will not fit.

I've done the conversion to my car, if you want vented discs why not do the full conversion? They will fit under 12 inch wheels if that's your concern. Plenty of information and help available if you need any.

Vented discs are about the most unnecessary braking mod you can ever do to a Mini, unless you are intending to do long distance touring car races with a lot of braking each lap.
Grooved discs are very good at keeping the brake dust off the discs/pads.
Fit Mintex 1144 or better pads for really aggressive use and AP600 racing brake fluid for rallying or racing.

Cooperman. How are Mintex for general use with grooved disks?

They should be OK, but since mine are for rallying in historic & endurance categories I'm only allowed standard discs and callipers.
I used Mintex 1177 in my last rally Mini on 12" discs and they were fantastic, even without grooved discs. Grooves should help clear the pad dust and give slightly better overall performance.
The Mini is such a light car that except under really extreme braking conditions, the biggest issue is getting the pads warm enough. On long tarmac rallies I've had the discs actually glowing bright red with no loss of braking, although I do use AP600 brake fluid due to DOT4 wanting to boil at those temperatures!
Vented discs on a Mini only start to work better when you have those wide sticky racing slick tyres which have so much grip on dry tarmac that very late braking means the heat has to be dissipated over a shorter time period.

So what about normal road use? What would you recommend as a direct replacement for standard disks/pads?

For normal road use the standard quality original spec discs & pads are very good.
For any sort of competition I would go for Mintex 1144 pads as they work fine at all temperatures.
Don't ever worry about the rear brakes as they do very little overall work.

That's a pretty fair comment, but you forget one thing, 95% of the mods on a mini aren't done to improve performance, safety or make the car more reliable - they are done to make the owner feel better ![]()
Most people also don't realise that the need to modify their driving style a little and never hold the car on the foot brake after a hard stop as this can cause delamination of the webs.
In Indonesia we have a word borrowed from Japanese that sums it up ...... "gengsi" .![]()
