1983 mini city

So i fitted led flasher boards in place of indicator bulbs on the mini, and replaced the two relays with 2 pin, 12V LED relays. The problem is that when I indicate one way, all four lights come on but one side (the direction i'm indicating in) is a bit brighter than the other side.

What could be causing all four to come on at once?

It's these lights from spiyda design https://www.spiyda.c...led-lights.html

Cheers, Chris

Your links bad.  I'd ask Spyda design first though KernowCooper might well have an idea.

In the standard loom the only places the two sides come together is at the indicator stalk and the hazard switch, has this affected the wiring for those?

On a side note - I really need to work out a way of building my LED units on an industrial scale. If they can charge ~£100 for those, I'm laughing! Interesting to see what they look like fitted though, any pics?

I e-mailed spiyda back when I first attempted to fit them, about a year ago, and the only help they could offer was an indicator wiring diagram.

The only thing changed in the loom was the relays, wiring should be fine, the indicators work as they should when using standard bulbs and normal relay.

haha yes they are fairly pricey, I shall get some pics up tomorrow

did you just fit the relay into the existing plug or check that the pins on the relay do the same job as the one you replaced ?

They use a 3 pole relay if I'm not mistaken and should be marked B49 49a and E31

So if you just wire up the 2 wires off a flasher unit the new relay needs a extra earth wire

In accordence with the Din wiring numbering

49 is 12v input

49a is  output

31 is earth

The leds you have are the domestic ones for single filiment replacement and have one single centre pin not like a side/brake light bulb, with 2?

The LED bulbs/units shouldn't cause a problem as they are on isolated sections. I would suggest, as Bungle wrote above, the relays are likely to be the cause.

What happens if you run it with the standard relay (it'll flash far to quickly or slowly but at least you'll have eliminated something)?

I only managed to get 5 minutes to look at it today

Things got strange, the lights stay on solid with the standard relays, but all four are still on, suggesting the led boards are the issue, would it be possible one board could be shorting off the car and causing this?

Is it a centre clock car?

It is indeed

pins are the same in both

so a 3 pin with ground wire would most likely be needed to get them working as they should?

the leds are definitely indicators yea, not for brake lights.

Unplug the repeater on the clocks, it'll stop the problem. You need to arrange it to have 2 repeaters at the dash instead of a common one, or else use an electronic flasher with a dedicated repeater output that will run the single lamp.
