If you're running soft tyres, ie, Yoko A048's then there may be a benefit
most of it is showboating

I do it just enough to clean any dirt or grit of the tyres.

Plus, if it's not exactly easy to get them to spin then you don't reallly have a problem with grip, thus there is no need for more. Generally, a big burnout will overheat the clutch, which will bugger your start and the rest of the run even more.

I tried a few runs last year down the 1/4 with and without warming the tyres and it made absolutely no difference that i could tell.
I was running 13x7's with A539's on.
If you cant get em to spin then you aint got enough power...lol

not necessarily, you aint going to generate that much heat in your tyres, as they are road tyres, and not slicks.... All you'll do is wear your tyres out..

I guess you have an LSD or you ain't never going to spin both wheels.

They're moulded not cut, cut slicks are illigal on the road.
Don't they have a wet patch for the burn out area on the 1/4 mile strip?
Yes they do, I always drive around it

The stock differentials just eat themselves if you treat them like that and eventually give way like mine did and it took my gearbox out with it :'(

7x13 with yokohama 048r's. Having said that though they do grip like a bugger! Had one run up santa pod got into stage (my first ever attempt at launching it) dialled in 5000rpm let the clutch go...... and it all just gripped and left me bogged down something evil!!!!! For evidence have a look at the video on my website!! Valueable lesson learnt!!! Will be nearer 8000rpm next time! Only managed a 14.4 qtr
