hello guys,
I know there are other topics on this but im finding it a little hard to get my head around exactly what I need when it comes to switches so if someone could confirm for me my current understanding that would be great.

I THINK I need a:
Off-on-on switch (headlamps)
an On-on switch (hazards/indicators)
an Off-on switch (demister)

an off-on with light (fog)
an on-on with light (break tester)

These would all be 20 or 25 amp 12 volt jobbies.

Sorry should have said haha, still a bit new to all this, my first classic and my first car :L
Its for a 1985 Mk3 mini.
As I currently understand it the indicators use an on-on with the first on leaving them to work normally and the second switches them to the hazard circuit ?

Sort of, the hazard switch has 6 terminals. The bottom 2 connect to power the indicators, switching the hazards on disconnects the indicators and connects all the others together - being, a supply from the hazard flasher, the warning light in the switch, left indicators, right indicators. They all need to be isolated from each other when not in use, or they'd all light up when you indicated to either side.

Okay so it's an on on switch with 6 terminals that id need to  buy. I assume that since te indicators are going you don't need an extra light telling you the hazards are  on since my gauge binnical will be flashing

I believe a dedicated hazard light tell tale is a requirement, though a buzzer might be ok. You'll struggle to find a switch, unless it's specifically designed i.e. another hazard switch. The alternative is relays or diodes to stop one side powering the other.

I actually have a 2 spare led bulbs so I could work out a way to wire one in above the switch as I'm making a new panel anyway

I will also be fitting LED bulbs in the relevant colour above the Hazard and fog...very possibly will fit an LED above each unit so that when any unit is on i have a light
REALLY hope this works now haha
Will add a picture hopefully in the next week and a half with it done

can't swear on hear, but I'd like to:

spent the past month trawling google/ebay for specific 'lucas' toggles to upgrade my dash. I've got a 1978 998 without a rear fog light, so was deciding between an under the dash switch (easy-peasy), upgrade to 5-switch panel (relitively easy) or get a new panel made up of LEDs & toggles - slightly retro look.

and just typed in toggle, and stumbled upon you shopping list!

cheers for all of your hard work - off to by some more kit.

thanks

One thing is the hazard switch is supposed to be a 3PDT and that one isn't so in making a getting a relay or making an and gate will message you with specifics as soon as my end is sorted :)

Hmm typing was terrible there. But yea I'm either making or buying a relay system or an and gate to fix that switch but if you can get a six terminal 3PDT switch it should work but like I said I'll send you the details as soon as it's fully sorted which shouldn't be long. Took me ages to find a way to sort this out haha
