Title says it all really - I'm thinking about investing in a 6-trumpet air horn (one more than normal) as there is a specific tune I would like to be able to blast out which isn't commercially available.

Has anyone every attempted to reprogramme an air horn ?
I'm loathed to shell out (and get shipped from the USA) on something that might not be possible.

I remember me and a mate were helping another mate fit his dixie horns. When he went off for a minute we pulled all the pipes off and reconnected them randomly. It sounded hilarious.

The notes are selected by a rotating disc or drum that spins inside the top of the compressor to open and close valves.  Re-programming it would mean making a new disc but theres no reason it can't be done.  They aren't normally made to be serviceable so it would need some careful dismantling.  If you wanted it to play a longer or shorter tune it would mean changing the gearing that turns the thing but if it's the same duration as the standard one it would just mean putting the notes in a different order in theory.
