Everywhere I look I see subframes and suspensions painted/ powder coated black with the odd exception of a red or a blue one here and there.

Now I understand the general reason for it but are there like minded souls out there who want to change colour, maybe go lighter.

I am looking to paint mine either red or yellow to offset the red of the car and then also thinking of the hubs and calipers and ancillaries. Before people mention paint type I am planning on using a high/ low temp high anti abrasive paint usually for rig splash zones or pipelines so the suitability is not an issue. Linked attached:

If there are people out there with different colours could I ask for them to be posted so I can see if it will look good or indeed if I stay black??

Thanks in advance and hoping to see some colour!!

What will the Mini be used for?

Road, Race or show piece?

If you're going for a lighter colour I assume its a bit more than an average mini? and if you're wanting to make these little details count it means you care :)

but also, it means you might become frustrated when it becomes dirty. Subframes are not the simplest to clean and therefore, most people go black or darker colours to evade this problem. :)

I'm planning on going orange with mine, when the motor next needs a rebuild and mines a daily driver.

I remember seeing a white mini with baby blue subframes. Looked cool.

For red mini, I think yellow subframes would look good

Hi Guys,

In part the reason for a lighter colour is so that it does show up any rust (hopefully non will happen) and dirt and can then be sorted straight away. I get next to no rain all year and so the dirt build up will not happen like it would back home in the UK so the cleaning will not be so hard. Also having it lighter will also make me look after it as the dirt will be visible and heaven forbid my wife sees it and If and when it does rain I think it best to stay off the roads here as many people have no clue how to drive!! Lol

Regarding the build I am fully stripping it down including all bearings, bushes, interior, exterior as I have no idea about the history of the car and how well it was looked after.  As a result I want to do it right first time, take my time and then hope that later on ordering and shipping spares parts will not be a problem.

Not for racing or show but simply for fun.

Love the red subbies though and the contrast looks great. Thanks for posting them as when I do see some it makes me want to carry on with the idea.

Thanks again guys

Bottom of mine is black, but the subframes are a red pearl.  Thought we'd try it and see how it looked.  Nice contrast.  Will see how much it's even noticeable once the car's back together.

Don't have anything more recent that I can find.  Colour is Toyota Red Mica or something like that...used on Tacoma/Hilux, etc. in early 2000's.  It's a near-exact match for the colour of the metal front subframe mounts I'd bought a couple years ago.

Whilst Googling for inspiration / ideas (as you do), on colour schemes for painting a Subframe I came across this recent thread.

I am in the process of rebuilding / painting my Subframe, Radius Arms, Hubs etc and rather than black was thinking of Gloss Grey however, yesterday I suddenly thought why not white??? Foolish I hear you say :-)

My reasoning is this, the Mini is currently medium / dark Blue (My Profile Pic) however we have decided that following the rebuild we will probably paint it Almond Green / Old English White AKA one of the original Mini Cooper colour schemes. Green Body, White Roof (no sripes down the bonnet as I only have a 998 engine :-(

A black Subframe, whilst practical is far too common Grey may look OK but could look unfinished and comments of 'why did you only prime your Subby', so to compliment the Roof a matching Subframe in Old English White may look cool?

For the underside I was going to contrast the bodywork green and paint the underside Old English White however after researching on here ref underbody colours its seems that most people match the body i.e. Almond Green Body - Almond Green Underside?

Also contemplating matching with white Radius Arms?

Any thoughts

P.S. Sorry for the Hi Jack but in line with Dylanscar who started the thread, I'm with you, be different :-)

P.P.S. Thumbs up for JOTUN, I have bought 5 Litres of JOTUN Jotmastic 87 Grey Primer for the underside and Subframe, been told its brill :-)
