Bolt Hole At Back Of Block?

hi, ive got a 1275 A+ block and there is a bolt hole at the rear of the block (fuel pump side) its about mid way up the block. what is it for?

sure its A plus and no pre A plus

 

 

they had a hole at the back in the center about 8mm

is it the water jacket drain -

 

as above should be on the a series don't think they were on the A+

Mines got the same and it is A+... It's just a water drain bolt.

That's the drain plug near the oil pump.

I think Maestros had a stay to support the inlet manifold that bolted somewhere near the fuel pump.

ill get a picture tomorrow, its not near the oil pump its in the centre. a picture will make it easier to understand ;)

My a series 1275 block which was taken from an Austin allegro has an extra bolt hole in centre.  It is tapped but doesn't go through so must of had something bolted there. Im thinking of fitting a knock sensor there and connecting up to a Knocklink warning light.

no engine number.

casting  its 12g1279

also the distributor hole is huge and the retaining bolt hold is at 7-O'clock?

It's a pre A. you need one of these to fit the dizzy, as well as the matching drive gear.

 

Still can't help on the hole, possibly for another model - Allegro.....

No thats def pre A plus

 

All my pre A plus 1275 blocks are like that with the hole.

ok just to be sure this is a picture of the front of my block, have i got the wrong alternator bracket on then?

Yes the alternator bracket is wrong, you need the longer one, and the dizzy drive is wrong as well
