Not sure about Maplins but AFAIK it is only about 1.2 ohms but needs to be 120W due to the draw of the heater.
The original is just a coil of resistance wire the air flow helping with cooling.

The original resistor is an open coil type so you could try this http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e89f7de12
Going to try it myself as this is becoming an issue.
You could also wind your own from resistance wire.

I used one of these and soldered the resistor into a seperate circuit on a twin speed switch to convert a single speed to twin...

switch(s) for the single speed owners who want to convert :D

Switch looks okay but I cannot agree with the resistors as they are 10W spec so even with 6 it is still 60W max against 120W needed.

They've been fitted for two years now with no problems, and longer than that on my previous daily driver, maybe mpi heaters take a higher load than earlier ones?
No idea what the rover/honda heaters (that these resistors are for) need but modern heater motors are usually much more powerful than mini ones!

yes I have seen these.. the longer thinner one looks like it could be a straight replacement.. for £7 its worth the gamble and a try ..

I made a bracket from a scrap bit of aluminium, it hangs from the bottom of the heater at the back on The left hand side beside the round ribbed vent.
It's been fine and I leave mine on the slow resisted speed pretty much all the time.
