So last night my Mini was running fine and I was off to pick up a friend, got to his house and then when I pulled over and stopped the car started running really weak until it just suddenly cut out and wouldn't start again for at least 20-30 minutes and even when it did start again it was running hideously weak so I nursed it home and got a lift off another friend. Gone down to my car this morning and once again it's still running like a dog, look underneath and there's a relatively small puddle of oil slowly dripping off the sump.

Any ideas what might be causing these problems and how to fix them, I'm absolutely stuffed as I know absolutely nothing about engines, help!  :(

When you say it was running weak, are you referring to the mixture or how it was struggling to run?

Have you got points or electronic ignition?

The oil may have been unrelated. It was definitely oil and not dirty fuel running down the back of the engine?

It was struggling to run badly, without revs and the choke out it just dies

I've got electronic ignition

Yeah I'm pretty sure its oil

Investigate where the oil is coming from as it is most likely unrelated to the poor running. As you describe your experience as know nothing about engines can you get a mate with some experience to take a look ?

Oil level?

Checked my oil level earlier and it was fine!

I know someone who lives about 30 minutes away from me, not sure if he'd be willing to come down and have a look or not though. I'll see what he's up to tomorrow. Anything I can do to stop myself from losing all the oil while its just sitting on my drive?

Did you do a recent top up orso? If the car is overfilled he can struggle if I remember right.. COuld explain the leak too I guess ( more oil etc)

Visually can you see where its leaking from, put a drip tray under it until you resolve it.
