Hi all,
I've dropped a 1275 metro engine in to my originally 998 mini. Can I use the same gear selector or do I need a longer version?

I believe the longer rod was for the later cars where the engine was moved forward in the front sub-frame by around 1/2". Instead of a longer rod, it is possible to move the end of the linkage forward by the same amount. From memory, if the engine is re-positioned back to the original position (the sub-frames have both sets of holes in later cars) you might need the shorter rod.
Just mount the engine as the original one was mounted and the original linkage will fit.

Same gear linkage.
Only Metros used a longer one.
