Hi all.

Need a four door car to replace my 2 door and don't have alot of money to play with.

I have found a 2003 Kia Rio for pennies and wonder if anyone has had one and if they are worth having. I know Kia wasn't great when that car was built but are they really that bad?

Any advice would be appreciated before i go and see it.

Ben

My dad had a 05 one, he had done "nearly" 300 thousand miles with no serious faults until a trainee lawyer ran into the back of him and it got written of, it looks as though it would have gone on for ever.

We had one (briefly) as a rental car when we went on holiday to cyprus. It managed a grand total of about 50 yards before it ground to a halt and died on us. We got a focus as a replacement (which to be honest was not that much better but it kept running at least)

I know that rental cars are never great but still.

People mock Hyundai but my dad has had one as a company car for the last 18 months and its not bad. Even some of their older stuff isn't bad. Its not going to set the automotive world on fire but they generally keep working. I'd rather buy a 3 cylinder diesel accent than another ford after my experiences with ford (I got flamed for saying this on another forum but I stand by what I said).

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

My mum had one of these when I was learning to drive. She had it for quite a while and it was incredibly reliable and great on fuel. Also had an amazing turning circle.

They do handle like a canal boat though and the gear throw is huge!

If you just want a cheap runabout with 5 doors and a big boot, go for it!

Cheap hatchback you cannot go wrong with the Mk1 Focus imo was a gamechanger at the time and they are a very nice car to drive

Cheers! ill keep an eye out.

Decided against the Kia now.

although it's only £150 with MOT on it, its just too bland, too cheap and too much chance that it's going to be trouble.

I would rather spend more than that and get something a bit better.

I just thought it was cheap for the year.
