Ok so basically when I first get the mini out for a drive its fine but after 5 mins or so it will start squealing as I come to a stop when applying the brakes but if I apply them at high speed they are fine any ideas why this is and how I stop it.

Are the brakes working ok? (Actually stopping you as good as they were) How old is the fluid? What is the condition of the disks, pads, drums and shoes?

Im not to sure how good they were before because I bought the car stripped it out and rebuilt it without driving it fluid is new shoes are new pads were replaced just before the rebuild but still the same discs and the squeal is only from the front.

I saw this question asked once a few years ago on a different forum, and someone honestly suggested putting a few dabs of grease on the pads to prevent it !

^^^Don't do this^^^

Hi,

I believe a product called "copper ease" is applied to the piston side of the brake pads. This is a very high temperature copper loaded compound which helps dampen the high frequency squealing noise you are hearing.
Use sparingly and don't get any near the pad surfaces!

Years ago cars came fitted with anti- squeal shims to stop this noise!

Cheers, Steve.

Like Steve says the front pads need shimming.

Shim the pads but also use copper grease on the pad to caliper surfaces( make sure you dont get grease on the pad wear surfaces!!)

As long as you are happy with the performance of the brakes and everything is sound (mind the pun) don't worry about the squeal, Mintex M1144 pads tend to be squeaky at low speeds as I know but ok at high, if you insist on getting rid of the squeak it might jut be a case of changing the pads, but the M1144'd are excellent pads

Mintex do something called Ceratec which is a bit more glue-like than copper grease. Just used it on my Alfa but haven't bedded pads in fully yet to test properly.

There used to be another product from Ferodo I think that formed a compliant bed between the pad and piston to stop the pad vibrating -

Try bevelling the leading edge of the pad and also ensure you run the pads in properly.
