After a bit of info looking into buying a vaux based mini the car is still down on the log book as a 1275 what needs doing with DVLA is it just a case of changinng engine numbers on log book also would it need an engineers report how does it get tested at mot time with difrent engine its tax exempt at moment will this be affested  also anybody recomend an insurance company who deal with this type of conversion.

Thanks for any help

have a look at this on the DVLA's site

https://www.gov.uk/v...ltered-vehicles

would the car score 8 points ? remembering 5 of these must be for a unmodified shell

if the answer is no the car is not correctly registered and will need to be registered correctly and pass a BIVA test, could be a good bargening point as this could cost you over £1000

we are seeing more and more of these un correctly registered cars for sale as the DVLA tighten the net and start pulling these cars off the road

Thanks for that the car is standard except for the engine change it all looks a bit mind blowing stuff from DVLA not sure weather to bother with it or not if its going to be compicated process

most vauxhal engine conversions need most of the minis front end removing to get the thing in

please check the bulkhead , inner wings and front panel , some conversions even need the front end extending

if some how the shell is unmodified ( a clubman has a bit more space )  it could score like this

shell 5 points

suspension 0 (coil overs)

axles 0 (different frame and drive shafts)

transmission 0 (gear box change )

steering 0 (metro rack used)

engine 0 v(vauxhal )

this still leaves the car with only 5 out of the needed 8 points

I wouldn't touch it unless it had an engineers report, and was correctly registered with the DVLA. You could be buying anything, it could be lethal! Buyer beware!

I've just changed mine with the DVLA from 1275 to 1598cc. It took a few weeks and I provided them with a new MOT, Engineers report and proof of where the engine came from. It could be a little more tricky if someone else done the conversion and it was done a while ago.
