Hi guys anyone ever used soda blasting to strip their car before? Is it a good or bad idea or is sand blasting better?

Soda blasting is good as it less stressful on the car bodywork plus it leaves a coating that is good for a couple of weeks without paint. It does not remove heavy rust deposits but on your panels it will be fine.

Subbies would be good for sand blasting along with heavy steel components.

I really don't see the point of soda blasting if it doesn't take the rust off.

Get it blasted with aluminium oxide from someone who is familiar with blasting car panels, it will come up like new, except where it is rusted through and rotten obviously

Some good points need something to show where I need to replace panels etc? How much would a soda blast compare to sand or oxide or dip?

Has anyone tried dustless blasting yet? It looks like it works better and doesn't have the problems with painting afterwards.

It actually looks a bit to good to be true on the You Tube vids!

I used a company called BlastingDiePast http://www.blastingdiepast.com/ I think the website is under development, but he is on facebook or you can phone him for a chat and quote. Talk to Will, 07970958214. It will at least give you an idea of price etc.
He also does powder coating, welding, painting and more.

He did a 1958 VW Split screen camper for me that I had totally stripped and took just the shell and doors etc. He did inside and out, including some after market sticky soundproofing, that he had to scrape off by hand. He did a great job, quick (including him get married half way through the job!) and it came back in primer.
He took and sent me loads of photo's throughout the process.
He was not exactly local to me but well worth the 3hr trip.
I'm glad I had it blasted as it exposed old repairs, some good and some bad! and gave me the chance to fix everything and do the restoration right.

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi,
I had it done on mine. As already said, removes paint but not much else. It's dangerous to assume that just because it removes the loose rust off panels that it's gone - the little critter is still in there just waiting for the chance to raise it's ugly head! In MHO it's a waste of money and effort... David's advise above sound good to me. I've since had another mini aluminium oxide blasted -and have to say I'm a lot more confident that the tea bag bug is gone outa my car. Important to get a car guy to do it though.
